Band Director
Mrs. Laura VanderHaeghen is the Director of Bands at Eastwood. She is also active in the Washington Township Education Association and currently serves as the Vice President, and was the yearbook adviser from 2006 until 2010 and again 2017-2019. She has taught at Eastwood since the 2006-2007 school year. She graduated from Butler University’s Jordan College of Fine Arts with a Bachelor of Music in instrumental and general music education in 2006, and a Masters of Music in music education from Butler University in 2012. She has taught in Lafayette School Corporation, Brownsburg Community Schools, and MSD Washington Township. She continues to perform on the euphonium in several local ensembles including the Pride of Indy Bands, Kokomo Park Band, and the Naptowne Tuba Quintet as well as subbing with many local ensembles on an as needed basis. She plays a Besson 967 Sovereign Euphonium. Mrs. VanderHaeghen holds memberships in WTEA/ISTA/NEA, IBA, IMEA/NAfME, ISSMA, and Kappa Kappa Psi, Alpha Beta Chapter. Outside of school, she enjoys reading Kurt Vonnegut books, viewing and creating art, visiting museums, walking, and playing with her two kids. She has a daughter, Cecelia, and a son, Gustav, with her husband, Jacob, a horn player who teaches privately and works in instrument repair at Paige’s Music; the family also has a Pitbull named Doc.
