Course Summary:

Students will be introduced to computer science in a way that empowers them to create authentic artifacts and engage with computer science as a medium for creativity, communication, problem solving, and fun. Using a blended learning model, your children are learning with a mix of online, self-guided activities and “unplugged” activities that use no computer at all.  Students will learn how the computer works, basic computer programming, and logic, problem solving, and creativity.  Students will focus on problem-solving process, understand- what is a computer?, input and output devices, understanding algorithms and processing to solve a problem, types of storage, and purpose of apps.  Students will use Tynker as the platform for coding and programming.  Students will participate in lessons that introduce computing concepts with interactive tutorials, video explanations, projects, quizzes, and puzzles reinforcing the concepts and assess how students are doing.  Students will use block like visual coding with Tynker, which focuses on visual and conceptual and eliminates the traditional programming language.  Students will focus on the underlying programming logic, not the language.  Throughout the course students will learn various file management techniques and vocabulary to help support their learning.
